Our custom-built digital Property F Reader and Precise Optical levels are for wider readings of the overall warehouse space; to measure flatness and tolerance according to the TR34 industry standard FM (Free Movement) requirements.

Where an independent floor survey is required, the customer will receive a complete report outlining findings and results in an accessible presentation.

Scale and speed is part of the service we can offer customers at Floor Surveys Ltd due to our efficient process and the in-house measuring equipment we use. Our results are accurate and reliable, matched with a capability to survey the biggest warehouses within the industry.

Case studies

Our case studies demonstrate the breadth of our technical expertise and the success of our solutions for our customers, ensuring every warehouse, commercial and industrial floor meets the standard required for its specific operational use.

1. New build FM2 floor flatness survey after completion

Floor type: New warehouse floor

Customer type: Main contractor

Service: Floor survey FM2

We were contacted by a main contractor of a site to conduct a floor flatness survey of a new warehouse floor. The site was 1,500 square metres in size, and the contractor had been tasked with handing over a compliant floor suitable for Free Movement of counterbalance forklift trucks, with the potential for low level racking and pallet systems.

Floor Surveys advised the contractor to carry out an FM2 Survey to ensure the floor was compliant, fit for purpose and laid to industry standards. (Free Movement Classification 2). Once the concrete was laid and finished, we carried out the survey in accordance to TR34 4th Edition – Industry Concrete Floor Standard.

Following the site visit and survey, a report was collated and sent to the main contractor.

2. VNA aisle troubleshooting & DM2 surveying

Floor type: Existing warehouse floor

Customer type: Operator of the warehouse

Service: Floor Survey Defined Movement (DM)

We were contacted by a facilities manager of a logistics warehouse specialising in the storage and distribution of goods. The warehouse had 15,000m2 of high level racking, with wire guided VNA (Very Narrow Aisle) fork trucks.

They were experiencing problems with their VNA MHE (Mechanical Handling Equipment). We were asked to survey the area and conduct a DM2 survey (Defined Movement) in the VNA Aisles.

Floor Surveys has an in-house profilergraph to carry out the DM Survey along the length of the VNA Aisles, to determine flatness of the floor and highlight any issues.

All information for each aisle was presented in a user friendly report with recommendations for improvements.

3. Retail repurposing & level survey planning

Floor type: Large Retail Outlet

Customer type: Developer and Project Management Company

Service: FM3 & Recommendations

A developer and project management company contacted Floor Surveys to request a level survey to determine the tolerance of the existing floor. The space was being repurposed with a change of use. The final outcome was for an aesthetic finish rather than heavy industrial use.

A level survey was conducted and the final report included a rectification plan in readiness for the flooring contractor to install the final finish.

4. Emergency wire guidance repair & diagnosis

Floor type: Factory Facility

Customer type: Logistics manager

Service: Wire Guidance and Urgent Repair

Floor Surveys works with companies on long term maintenance programmes. A facilities manager contacted us to request help with their wire guidance system. The wire guidance is laid throughout the warehouse racking aisles within a VNA (Very Narrow Aisle environment). Specialist VNA fork trucks run in the aisles following the wire guidance system.

Operations in this area were disrupted, as the problem would not allow the trucks to run. Floor Surveys carried out a site visit. On inspection, there was a small break in the wire guidance between the armoured joint. Working together with the facilities manager, an urgent repair was carried out and the VNA tucks were able to quickly continue.

5. Hygenic epoxy resin for pharmacetical facilities

Floor type: New Floor Installation

Customer type: Owner of Warehouse Facility

Service: Epoxy Resin Floor

A new enquiry was made to Floor Surveys which required a hard wearing clean finish for a pharmaceutical environment. A site meeting was organised and recommendations were made by Floor Surveys to install a new epoxy resin floor.

The programme of works was agreed including initial preparation floor grinding, resin floor covering, primer and installation of a final epoxy resin finish.

Once laid and handed over to the client, the floor was ready for a multitude of purposes – from machinery and walkways to storage. The client was happy with their new hard-wearing, high performance floor.
